中国の博物館に展示された化石の大半がニセモノであることが判明した。なんと中国全土の美術館に展示されている化石のうち、95％以上がニセモノであるという。

中国のハイテク総合研究と自然科学の最高研究機関である「中国科学院」の研究員・李淳氏は、科学雑誌の最新号でこの事実を明らかにし、中国内のニセ化石問題の深刻性を提起した。

李淳氏によると「現在、中国の学者たちと共同研究している外国の学者たちの大半は、そ の存在に気づいている。共同研究のプロジェクトに支障が出ると気を使って言及しないだけだ」と述べる。ニセ化石が氾濫する理由は、ニセ化石の製造業者は比 較的安いコストで高収益が保証される点にあるという。
